Bottles for tinctures

One of my early posts on this blog was about painting lots of jam jars to keep all my herbs in. As I've been making more tinctures recently I'm turning all the empty vodka bottles to good use to for storing tinctures and vinegars. I just had a painting session...

These will get baked in the oven tomorrow and then be "potion ready"! :-) A few candidates waiting for/ or nearly ready for bottling: nettle and apricot iron tonic; nettle vinegar; and cinnamon tincture.

  1. i use to draw and paint on bottles when i was younger but i never thought of baking them. what kind of paint to you use and how long do you bake them for?
also, this is perfect because i just bought vodka to make a few tinctures of my own. your nettle and apricot sounds lovely and i would like to make cinnamon too. i need to go buy some sticks for it though ;)

  2. Hi Andrea,
I bought the glass paints here: http://www.paintforglass.co.uk - I baked them for about 35-40 minutes on 160C (which is supposed to make them dishwasher-proof, although I haven't tested it). Time to siphon off those tinctures later - mmmm :-)

  3. I had to chuckle when I saw the word "vodka" - I have an aversion to that particular tipple after a little "too much" on my 26th birthday! It's a great idea - I use dark wine bottles but with some glass paints I could make use of the more readily-available rose wine bottles :o)
