Making your own perfume (my first vlog!)

Welcome to my first vlog (apothevlog?!) where I share the fun I've been having recently making my own old-fashioned perfumes.

  1. Well done you!!! I really enjoyed watching that, I have several old books with perfume recipes in, I'm inspired to give them a try now and experiment throughout the year. Any thoughts on the keeping properties of these DIY perfumes? Also what software are you using to edit your movies?

  2. Thanks Debs. :) It was certainly a learning curve making my first video - I look a bit serious! LOL The perfume making is lots of fun, the one with the vanilla pod is my favourite at the moment!

I used iMovie (on Mac) to do the video. I've been told that Windows Moviemaker on PC is fine for basic video editing (and free I think). I look forward to your video debut! :)

    Best wishes,
    Elizabeth

  3. My book arrived yesterday and tomorrow I'll be making my own Orris Root, Benzoin, Myrrh, Frankincense and Pine Resin tinctures to use in the recipes. Need to pick up but I'll be joining you making my own homemade perfumes soon. I've already drawn up a list and made a list of potential herbal room sprays I can make. Just need to pick up a few bits and pieces to make it happen and then I'm away.

Thanks for the video info, I have Windows Moviemaker, so I'll give it a try, and see what I can achieve, you never know maybe I'll post a vlog soon :)

  4. Hi Elizabeth
I can recommend the Natural Perfumery Forum which is great for learning and sharing tips. I also recently attended a course run by Alec Lawless of Essentially Me. Alec teaches small groups how to make a natural perfume and I was delighted with the result. He is running another course in June, if anyone is interested. Google "Essentially Me" for more...
    Kind regards

  5. Hi Lynne,
Thanks for the resources! So many good things to learn... so little time. :-) I look forward to hearing more on your perfume adventures on your blog. ;-) I filtered off the Carmelite and Hungary waters today - lovely! I'm going to try the Hungary Water as a toner, which I saw suggested in James Wong's book.
Best wishes & good to hear from you,
    Elizabeth
