Free salad!

Dandelion (Taraxacum Officinalis) leaves can be picked and added to salad, cooked like spinach or drunk as a tea. The leaf has a slightly bitter, tangy taste. There are a number of health benefits:
  • Good for the health of the liver
  • An alkaline food helping the body to redress too much acidity in the body
  • Purifying and cleansing for the blood
  • Good for digestion
And what's more, they're free in our gardens and hedgerows! :)

PS - they need to be picked just before eating as they wilt quickly (as I just found out).

  1. Hi Elizabeth,

I remember eating Dandelion salads when I used to go to tipee camps. They do taste great but if eaten in the evening, it is likely one will need the toilet sometime during the night. Part of the cleansing no doubt. :-) Best picked during spring if I remember right as they are then less bitter.

  2. Yum! I love adding dandelion greens to a salad. Just remember that the younger you get them, the more you can put on your salad. While the mature (flowered) greens aren't particularly bad for you, they do get much more bitter.
